How do group lessons compare to 1-to-1 tutoring?

1-to-1 tutoring provides one hour of focused support each week. It’s a great choice for pupils who are already confident in maths and simply need a little extra help to strengthen understanding or close a few small knowledge gaps.

Group tuition, on the other hand, offers a broader and more comprehensive learning experience. In addition to a one-hour weekly session, pupils receive extra materials to complete before and after each lesson. This structure helps them revisit concepts, improve retention, and master topics more deeply in a shorter time.

Because lessons take place in small groups of up to four pupils, your child will learn alongside peers, gain new perspectives, and realise they are not alone in needing additional support. This builds confidence and encourages a healthy learning mindset.

If your child ever misses a session, there’s no need to worry as all lessons are recorded, and full materials are available for replay, offering total flexibility.

Every lesson (whether 1-to-1 or group) is highly personalised. With group tuition, your child also benefits from five days a week of personalised support via Teams. They can send me questions at any time, and I’ll respond as soon as possible to make sure they stay on track and continue learning with confidence.

Which platform will be used for lessons and communication?

Live lessons are delivered on Zoom, so before the programme begins, pupils will need to install the Zoom app on their laptop or computer.

Microsoft Teams is used as our online classroom. This is where I share lesson recordings, homework reminders, learning resources, and important updates. Pupils can also message me privately through Teams if they need help with homework, schoolwork, or have any questions between lessons.

Before the programme starts, pupils will also be asked to download the Microsoft Teams app on their phone, so they don't miss notifications and can stay connected between lessons. Teams can also be accessed on their laptop, which may be more comfortable for viewing resources and recordings. Full setup instructions will be provided before the first lesson.

What if my child is too shy to participate?

That's absolutely fine! Your child doesn't have to speak if they feel shy or uncomfortable. During live Zoom lessons, they can type answers in the chat or send me a private message instead. Cameras stay on during lessons to keep everyone engaged, but no one is ever put on the spot to talk. Lessons are recorded (capturing only my teaching and screen, never the pupils) so your child can revisit anything at their own pace.

How quickly will my child see progress?

I will do my very best to provide your child with everything they need to succeed: from resources and video recordings to personalised support, lesson notes, and ongoing communication.

However, real progress depends on your child’s engagement and effort. To see the best results, they should take part actively in lessons, ask questions when unsure, and submit their weekly assignments on time.

Every child learns at a different pace, but when consistent effort is made, progress often becomes visible surprisingly quickly, both in confidence and performance.

What happens if we miss a lesson?

Life happens: illness and unexpected events are part of it.

For group tuition:
Missed lessons are not a problem. Every session is recorded, so your child can watch the replay and attempt the questions when it suits them.

For 1-to-1 support (cancellation and rescheduling):

• Empower Maths requires 24 hours’ notice to cancel a lesson. If you cancel within the notice period, you can choose either a refund or to carry the payment forward to the next lesson.

• Less than 24 hours’ notice is chargeable.
